                      smldos  Versions
                Description Download
Standard:      This is the one havin the least hassel.   Consists of only the d01 and pr2 modules.
Virtually no install necessary.   Pr2.com can handle the DOS command input, and d01.exe is a
good helper.   Uses some DOS memory;   can very easily be run under Windows.
 smldos.zip

Floppy disk:      Emergency boot disk version;   creates boot floopy disk, where smldos resides.
When booted, brings up ram disk, used by smldos,  to sun smoother.   Functionally uses no DOS
memory.   Is rather slow in booting.

C disk:      Most advanced smldos;   resides mostly on c: disk,  creates boot floppy disk for easy
booting into DOS, to auto run prm.exe.   Uses ram disk for smooth operation;  has speedy boot.
Mods can be made to c: disk system files,  for this version to be run under Windows.

+---------------------------------+

Smldosc needs a floppy disk for its basic boot files. It
also needs a c:\smldos directory, and the Windows directory,
for the rest of its files.

To create the floppy disk, there are two tasks to do. One
is to make the disk bootable, and the second is to unzip the
a-Disk.zip files onto the disk. There are, in turn, two
methods to make the disk bootable.

The first is use one of the Standard Techniques. The second
is to run the prepdisk.bat file. It is suggested that between
these two, a person can create a floppy boot disk for the
a-Disk.zip file contents. Prepdisk.bat is perhaps the easier.

The second task is to unzip the contents of the a-Disk.zip file
onto the floppy disk. Make the target directory, a:\, or the
root directory of the floppy disk. Overlay any msdos.sys file
that is already on the disk.

Also unzip the contents of the c-Disk.zip file. Make the
target directory, c:\, or the root directory of the hard disk.
Turn on the option for `include subdirectories', in the unzip
program. This will allow the SMLDOS directory to be copied
 correctly into c:\.

The only other issue is the drivers for the peripherals
of the computer. A CD driver program is included in
c-Disk.zip. It might work very well on your computer. If
not, you can change the `load driver' boot commands.

They are in the smldos config.sys file, and are marked.
Others could be copied from the c:\config.sys file, into
the a:\config.sys file, to provide CD disk access. An
off-the-wall method would be to re-start windows under
the MS-DOS mode. Then keep the generated autoexec & config
files from the c: disk. They would probably contain the
commands necessary for the computer's CD unit.

Any other driver resident programs could be dealt with,
similarly. Their load instructions could be added to the
 a:\config.sys file.

+---------------------------------+

Smldos needs a floppy disk to reside on. When installed,
the disk should be bootable and should bring up the prm.exe
 DOS interface program, when booted.

To create this floppy disk, there are two tasks to do. One
is to make the disk bootable, and the second is to unzip the
A-Disk.zip files onto the disk. There are, in turn, two
methods to make the disk bootable.

onto the floppy disk. Make the target directory, a:\, or the
root directory of the floppy disk. Turn on the option for
`include subdirectories', in the unzip program. The disk needs
to have the subdirectories in the zip file. Overlay any msdos.sys
file that is already on the disk.

The only other issue is the drivers for the peripherals
of the computer. A CD driver program is included in
A-Disk.zip. It might work very well on your computer. If
